Portugal will appear at their sixth successive World Cup, in Qatar later this year.

Head coach Fernando Santos has been in charge since 2014. In the 2016 Euros he guided Portugal to glory after they defeated hosts France to lift the trophy for the first time. In the last edition of the World Cup and Euros, their tournament ended at the last-16 stage.

They will have Nations League games against the Czech Republic and Spain next week and a warm-up on November 17 against Nigeria.

Manchester United striker and national captain Cristiano Ronaldo also picked up the “best scorer” award on Tuesday September 20.

Ronaldo, who has scored 117 goals for Portugal in 189 games, was given the honorary award as the country’s all-time top-scorer. He will captain his since in the World Cup this winter.
