Chelsea have joined a number of top clubs in tracking the progress of former Barcelona academy winger Raul Moro, according to reports. The 18-year-old, who is currently with Lazio, has impressed at youth level for the Italian outfit but is yet to cement his place in the club’s first team.
Moro has played just one minute of senior football in his short career, coming on as a late substitute during Lazio’s league defeat to Juventus towards the end of last season.
His lack of experience has not deterred a selection of the world’s best teams from eyeing a move for the forward, who is very highly rated by his current employers.
According to local outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, Moro finds himself at a ‘crossroads’ regarding his future as a result of limited first-team opportunities, with the player’s entourage keen to see his development aided by more senior minutes.
It is claimed that Moro is attracting considerable interest from Chelsea as well as ‘several admirers’ elsewhere in the Premier League.
However, the Blues could also face stiff competition from abroad for his signature, with ‘several European teams’ including a ‘top club’ in Italy also eyeing a future move.
The unnamed Italian side are believed to have ‘taken information to understand the feasibility of a possible operation’ before consolidating their interest.
It remains to be seen whether or not Moro will be tempted into leaving Lazio this month, with a summer move likely to be the preferred option for the Serie A club.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard previously admitted that the Blues may dip into the transfer market before the end of January, but suggested that players must leave in order to make room for new arrivals.
“I have ideas,” Lampard told reporters at the beginning of the month. “We have a big squad and we have to see if that changes, if there are opportunities for players that aren’t playing so much.
“That’ll be a conversation between the player and myself and then we’ll see if we can strengthen in the right way. But we’re not jumping up and down to do so at the moment, my focus this year is purely on work. It’s a long month.”
Out-of-favour defender Fikayo Tomori is one of the fringe players that have been tipped to depart Stamford Bridge in the next few weeks, with Leeds United and AC Milan both said to be keen on the 23-year-old’s services.
Veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero and full-back Marcos Alonso could also be in line to move on in the near future.
