Arsenal could announce the signing of Martin Odegaard as early as today, according to reports from Spain. Odegaard only emerged this week as a top target for Arsenal. However, it appears the Norway international is edging closer to a loan move to the Emirates.
Odegaard is keen on leaving Real Madrid on loan after making just nine appearances in all competitions so far this season.
The 22-year-old has played just five minutes of competitive football since the beginning of December.
Real Sociedad were keen on re-signing Odegaard after he spent last season on loan with the La Liga club.
However, it appears Arsenal have beaten Sociedad to his signature.
“Young players need to play regularly,” Ceballos said.
“At Real Madrid, I needed to know that I would have equal opportunities. I was obsessed with playing again.
“I wasn’t getting minutes, but I realised it was best to work and reverse the situation and be important [with another club].
“If I do this [go on loan], I’ll play again. It couldn’t have been any clearer.
“I can tell you what happened to me at Madrid.
“I don’t know exactly what will happen with Martin Odegaard, but it is obvious that any player who wants to succeed at Madrid is going to grab the opportunity he has.”
Arteta was asked about the potential of signing Odegaard at his press conference on Thursday.
However, the Spaniard was giving nothing away, saying: “Sorry, guys, but I cannot comment on players who play for different clubs.”
