Former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres has described the decision to make the move to Barcelona as a “no-brainer”.

Torres made the switch to the Nou Camp after spending just over a year with City. Injuries hampered his final few months at the Etihad before his move to Barcelona was confirmed in January, having been courted by the Catalan club for some time.

Since making the move back to his native Spain, Torres has scored seven times in 22 appearances across all competitions, as well as registering six assists. The 22-year-old has also managed to secure a regular spot in Xavi’s side, something that he struggled to do while at City.

While Torres enjoyed some bright moments during his time in the Premier League, he was unable to deliver those impressive performances on a regular basis. Having failed to settle at the Etihad, the Spain international asked to leave the club before joining Barca for an initial £46.7million.

Torres has now opened up on his decision to leave City. In an interview in Spain (via Sports Illustrated), the forward discussed why it was an easy decision, despite the Blues’ success.

“I feel good. It’s a little hard to move clubs in January, but Manchester City let me leave easily”, Torres said.

“[City] were winning everything, but when you don’t have the opportunities you want, you consider other options. Xavi wanted me, and it was a no-brainer.”

Torres’ comments come after the forward admitted upon his arrival at the Nou Camp in January that he had used City as a stepping stone in order to get a move back to his native Spain. The 22-year-old had joined the Blues from Valencia for £20.7m back in the summer of 2020.

“I’ve always said it, it was very clear to me. I went to City to return to one of the greats in Spain. I was prepared to assume this responsibility. I want to return Barca to the place where it deserves,” Torres said at his unveiling.
