Manchester United and Manchester City have four players apiece in Gareth Southgate’s top 20 most-capped England stars.

Just one member of the United squad – Harry Maguire – made the cut for this month’s internationals while five from the Etihad were given the nod. But it seems both clubs have had an equal share of preference over Southgate’s six-year tenure.

Many players from the Manchester giants featured in the journey to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the road to last year’s Euros final. Gambling app SBK have now outlined which players from both United and City are among Southgate’s England ‘favourites’ going by the number of caps he has given out as of June 6, 2022.

It’s no surprise to see captain Harry Kane top the list with 54 caps, but the next three in line are all from City. Raheem Sterling comes in at second with 47 caps while Kyle Walker (46) and John Stones (45) sit third and fourth respectively.

Jack Grealish makes the table thanks to his 21 appearances under Southgate. United’s most favoured players both have 43 caps; Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire propping up the top seven with Jordan Pickford in fifth with 44.

Soon-to-depart Jesse Lingard has played 32 times under Southgate while Jadon Sancho has featured in 23 matches. Jordan Henderson (40), Kieran Trippier (35) and Eric Dier (33) make up the top 10.

Completing the top 20 are Declan Rice (30), Mason Mount (28), Dele Alli (24), Danny Rose (21), Kalvin Phillips (20), Ben Chilwell (17) and Tyrone Mings (17).
