Erling Haaland deal ‘very imminent’ and other Man City transfer rumours
A deal for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to join Manchester City this summer is ‘very imminent’ according to reports in Italy.
The 21-year-old is one of the most prolific forwards in world football, with his £62million release clause attracting some of Europe’s elite clubs this summer. Haaland – after breaking through at RB Salzburg – has further enhanced his reputation in the Bundesliga and is now seemingly ready for the next step in his career.
City have been on the lookout for a recognised number nine since Sergio Agüero departed the Etihad Stadium in 2021. The club’s all-time top goalscorer was dependable for nearly a decade, so replacing him was always going to be a tough ask.
After the failure to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane last summer, attentions have quickly switched to Haaland, and a deal now looks like it’s edging ever closer. Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that a deal for Haaland to join City is now ‘very imminent’.
Elsewhere, the Daily Star are reporting that cross-town rivals Manchester City and Manchester United are set to battle it out for Southampton midfielder, James Ward-Prowse.
After a stellar campaign, it looks like the free-kick expert has earned rave reviews in both camps, with Saints demanding a £60m fee to prize their star man away from St Marys.
Earlier this season, Pep Guardiola described Ward-Prowse as the best dead-ball specialist in the world and his signing would certainly add something different to City’s already lucrative arsenal.
Finally, the Sun have revealed City and Liverpool are keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Chelsea and England midfielder, Mason Mount.
The continuing issues with the new ownership at Stamford Bridge has delayed the opportunity for the European champions to extend Mount’s £70,000-per-week deal and the situation is starting to get a little twitchy.
There are fears within Chelsea that the 23-year-old – with only two years left on his current deal – could be tempted by lucrative offers from City and Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp has been vocal about his admiration for Mount in the past, while Guardiola is reportedly also a big fan of the midfielder.
