Tottenham set limit for Frenkie de Jong as Daniel Levy discovers Barcelona’s ‘demands’ | Football | Sport

According to Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are keen to sign Barca star De Jong this summer, having seen a £51.3m bid for the Netherlands international rejected last month. Tottenham are said to be willing to increase their offer by a further £8.5m at the end of the season, though that still may not be enough to test the resolve of Barca despite it being their maximum limit.

The Nou Camp outfit have told Spurs that they are only willing to sell De Jong if they receive an offer of £85m, which could be a tough pill to swallow for the higher powers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That would make him their most expensive signing of all time – and by some distance. The most they have paid for a player until now is the £54m they paid to buy Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.
