Man Utd: Erik ten Hag points finger after ‘avoidable’ mistake v Fulham | Football | Sport

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag singled out one player for being out of position in the build-up to Fulham’s late winner on Saturday. Alex Iwobi scored a 97th-minute goal to take all three points at Old Trafford, with their 2-1 win the first away victory to United in over 20 years.

The goal came from deep inside Fulham’s own half, when a long ball was launched forward and Harry Maguire’s header hit Adama Traore who won a race against the England centre-back.

He was able to move up the field and find Iwobi, who cut inside and left Andre Onana stranded to spark jubilant scenes in the away end at Old Trafford.

And Ten Hag was far from impressed at how the late goal was scored. “It was a throw-in [for Fulham] in the corner, we had them under pressure and we have one player in the wrong position,” he told the BBC.

“As a team we should manage that and make sure everyone is in the right position. We let them escape and it is avoidable. The team showed big character to fight back, we deserved the equaliser and went for the win – we showed big personality and character. It was that mistake. Before that we went for the win and we should have taken our opportunities.”
