Man Utd could offer four players to Barcelona after £90m fee slapped on Frenkie de Jong | Football | Sport

Manchester United will reportedly be forced to shell out a huge transfer fee to land Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in the summer. The Catalan giants have slapped a £90million price tag on the midfielder, according to Mundo Deportivo, but United could try to sign him for less by offering one or two of their players as part of the deal.

Express Sport takes a look at four United stars who could be included in a part-exchange offer for De Jong…

Mason Greenwood

United have already decided that Mason Greenwood has no future at Old Trafford, having loaned him out to Getafe for the duration of the campaign. A permanent move in the summer would be the logical solution for all parties and Barcelona have already been credited with an interest in his signature.

It was reported in January that Greenwood was a target for the Spanish heavyweights, who were said to have been willing to offer him the iconic No 10 shirt once worn by Lionel Messi. United could play on Barcelona’s interest by using Greenwood as a makeweight in a swap deal for De Jong, with the move able to leave both clubs happy if it can be arranged.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho’s time at United also looks to be up following his spat with Erik ten Hag, which led to him returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan in January. The England winger has already chipped in with two assists in the Bundesliga, having shown glimpses of the ability that convinced United to sign him in the first place.

A fresh start in the form of a permanent move to Barcelona could be just what Sancho needs to rediscover his form and put himself back on the map as one of Europe’s most feared wingers. United are unlikely to make a profit on him by selling him in the summer, but could decide to use him in a bid to drive down De Jong’s asking price.

Antony

Antony is perhaps the biggest example of Ten Hag’s recruitment not working out as planned, with the Brazilian winger having failed to impress since joining United two years ago. He is yet to score or provide a single assist in the Premier League this season and the Red Devils could benefit from shipping him out to get his lucrative £150,000 weekly salary off their books.

He is still only 23, though, meaning he has plenty of years left to improve and could still become a top player in the future. However, it remains to be seen if Barcelona would be willing to accept Antony in a part-exchange deal for De Jong, with his stock having plummeted over the last couple of seasons.

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay has arguably been one of United’s best players this season, having scored a total of eight goals in all competitions. However, there are still lingering questions over whether he is truly good enough to start for the Red Devils on a regular basis.

If McTominay were to be included in a swap deal for De Jong, it would give Barcelona a like-for-like replacement without having to delve into the market themselves. That said, there is no guarantee that he would be a good fit at the Nou Camp or that Barcelona would be interested in securing his services.
