Man City team news: Predicted XI vs Chelsea as Guardiola makes two changes | Football | Sport

Manchester City are aiming to make it 12 wins in a row across all competitions when they take on Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium tonight (5.30pm). Pep Guardiola was full of praise for his side after they extended their winning streak against FC Copenhagen in midweek, but the Catalan coach is expected to be without several first-team players in his starting-11 for this weekend’s clash with Chelsea. Express Sport looks at how City could line up, with two changes…

Goalkeeper: Ederson

An Ederson blunder gifted Copenhagen an equaliser during Man City’s midweek fixture, but the Brazilian is expected to retain his position between the sticks. Ederson does have a point to prove though, as the 30-year-old has kept just one clean sheet in his last four outings for the European champions.

Defence: Walker, Dias, Stones, Ake

After being in and out of the City team last year, it now looks as if Kyle Walker has re-established himself as the side’s first-choice right-back. The City skipper has started all but two of the Sky Blues’ 23 Premier League matches this season and was instrumental in changing the game when he came off the bench against Everton.

Speaking of last season, City’s treble-winning centre-back duo Ruben Dias and John Stones have started the previous two fixtures together and will likely return to the side on Saturday. Nathan Ake should slot into the final spot in City’s back-line, ahead of Manuel Akanji and Josko Gvardiol, with the latter having been ruled out by Guardiola.

Midfield: Rodri, De Bruyne, Alvarez

City’s Mr Reliable in the heart of midfield, barring any late injury issues, Rodri looks set to maintain his 100 per cent record of starting in every Premier League fixture he’s been available for this season. Alongside the Spaniard will be Kevin De Bruyne, who has already registered seven assists since returning to the City team.

However, with Bernardo Silva facing a race against time to be involved and Mateo Kovacic just back from injury himself, Guardiola is left with just one real option to fill the last central spot. Julian Alvarez is yet to miss a Premier League fixture for City this season and the Argentine is expected to be involved once again this weekend.

Attack: Foden, Haaland, Doku

An injury to Jack Grealish has left Guardiola somewhat stretched in attack, with Jeremy Doku the most likely candidate to replace the Englishman on the teamsheet. Likely operating off the left, Doku will be partnered on the opposite flank by the in-form Phil Foden.

With six goal contributions in his last four outings, Foden will be looking to supply Erling Haaland up front, who netted twice in City’s last fixture at the Etihad. Despite missing a chunk of the season through injury, Haaland still leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 16 goals in 18 appearances.

Predicted Manchester City XI vs Chelsea in full: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Ake; Rodri, De Bruyne, Alvarez; Foden, Haaland, Doku

Changes from FC Copenhagen win
Julian Alvarez in for Bernardo Silva
Jeremy Doku in for Jack Grealish
