Liverpool and Chelsea appear to have been handed a boost in their pursuits of Newcastle playmaker Bruno Guimaraes. The playmaker has been linked with a move away from the Magpies this summer, and Eddie Howe’s side already appear to be eyeing replacements.

Guimaraes has been a key part of Newcastle’s success over the past few seasons, with his display against Nottingham Forest highlighting why his side were not willing to entertain offers for his services in the January transfer window.

The Brazil international smashed a magnificent volley past Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels in the 10th minute before firing a sensational strike into the bottom corner to seal a 3-2 win for his side.

Guimares’ performances since joining Newcastle have earned him plenty of plaudits, and the emergence of a release clause in his new deal at St James’ Park has caught the eye of top clubs around Europe. The 26-year-old is said to be available for around £100million, which is a fee not out of reach of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Both sides are said to have registered an interest in the former Lyon star, and they can take confidence from the news that Newcastle are already scouring the market for reinforcements in midfield ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Magpies are pushing to sign Atalanta star Ederson and are willing to do ‘everything’ to secure the signature of the 24-year-old. The playmaker has scored five and assisted one in 22 Serie A appearances so far this season, and Newcastle are intent on ‘snatching’ him away from Atalanta for a fee in the region of £23million.

Juventus are also among Ederson’s suitors, though the Magpies are hoping that the prospect of playing regular Premier League football will be enough to convince him to snub the rival Serie A interest in favour of a new challenge in England. The Magpies could also lean on Guimaraes to provide his international teammate with a positive recommendation on his stay in Tyneside.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle still attempt to lure Ederson to St James’ Park, regardless of whether their rivals activate Guimaraes’ release clause. Sandro Tonali is set to return to first-team action over the summer following his ban, though sales in midfield are anticipated given that the Magpies are weary of their Financial Fair Play situation and want to raise funds.
