Liverpool are believed to be interested in three Bayer Leverkusen players, who could join Xabi Alonso in signing for the club this summer. The Bundesliga table toppers have impressed so far this season, with former Reds midfielder Alonso looking to deliver Leverkusen’s first-ever top-flight title.

Leverkusen have tipped the Bundesliga on its head this season, with the side from North Rhine-Westphalia leading the way by eight points. As a result, reigning champions Bayern Munich have decided incumbent manager Thomas Tuchel will depart at the end of the current campaign, which could have major ramifications for Liverpool’s plan to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Bayer boss Alonso is considered the front-runner for the Anfield hotseat, but it isn’t just the Leverkusen manager who Liverpool currently admire. That’s because the six-time European champions are said to have made enquiries about three players currently on the books at the Bundesliga side.

According to reliable Liverpool reporter Neil Jones, Liverpool have taken a liking to Piero Hincapie, Florian Wirtz and Edmund Tabsopa. The trio have shone for Leverkusen this season, featuring regularly in Alonso’s side so far, but they could be allowed to depart the club during the summer window.

Jones has claimed Liverpool hold long-standing interest in all three stars, with the Merseyside outfit having made a tentative approach for Hincapie in the past. The 22-year-old defender has caught the eye of several Premier League sides, with West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur having been previously linked.

Elsewhere, Hincapie’s defensive partner Tabsopa is also believed to be on Liverpool’s radar, after a string of impressive performances under Alonso at Leverkusen. Not only are they runaway leaders in the Bundesliga, Die Werkself also boast the best defence in the division, having conceded just 15 goals from their 22 league outings this season.

Whereas the crown jewel in Leverkusen’s side, German midfielder Wirtz, is also commanding attention from Liverpool. Unlike the other two names on the list though, this comes as no surprise at all, with Wirtz having been courted by a number of top clubs across the continent, ahead of a proposed move in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City and Bayern are just two names believed to be in the mix to sign the playmaker, who is under contract at Leverkusen until 2027. Any move for Wirtz is unlikely to come cheap though, with Bayer said to be demanding at least £80million for the starlet’s signature.
