Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino have reportedly agreed that Chelsea will need to reinforce at both ends of the pitch in the summer transfer window. The Blues have been the Premier League‘s busiest club in terms of recruitment over the last few years, but many of their new arrivals have struggled to hit the ground running.

Chelsea have lost 10 of their 24 league games so far this season, with their defence in need of improvement when the campaign draws to a close. They have also struggled to score enough goals after failing to recruit a prolific forward in the last two windows, but it seems a new striker will be a top priority when the bidding opens in the summer.

The Blues are planning to address their defence as well as attack between now and the start of next season, according to The Athletic. It is said that more signings will be targeted in those areas as Chelsea look to get themselves back to the upper reaches of the Premier League table, with Boehly and Pochettino very much on the same page.

A number of big-name forwards have already been linked with the west Londoners, including the likes of Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen and Brentford striker Ivan Toney. However, there is no guarantee that either player will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer because Chelsea are determined to persist with their youthful recruitment policy.

It has also been reported that Chelsea might be at risk of breaking FFP rules if they fail to raise enough money through player sales before the end of June. However, the feeling inside the club is said to be a positive one, with those in power expecting to avoid the threat of being punished.

Chelsea will certainly be looking to improve their fortunes next season after being stuck in mid-table for the last two Premier League campaigns. Pochettino recently suggested that new arrivals will be required for the Blues to start making tangible progress, with the Argentine having endured a torrid reign at Stamford Bridge thus far.

Speaking after the Blues were beaten by Everton in December, he said: “After the first half of the season, we need to check. That is the reality. If we are not receiving enough, maybe we need to do some movement. That is the thing to analyse with the sporting directors, to see if we can change this dynamic and improve in the second half of the season.

“We need to be more aggressive, then it’s a massive assessment and when the transfer window opens, we will see what we can do. I don’t say if I am going to ask for more or less players. It’s to see if the perception matches the reality. We are missing something. We need to improve our reality.”
