Furthermore, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that it is likely that Osimhen would leave in the summer: “This (Osimhen’s exit) was already known since this summer, our negotiations (over a new contract) were friendly, otherwise it would not have been so long. We knew he would go to Real Madrid, PSG or a top English club.”

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are on the lookout for more firepower next season, but the Blues appear to have moved ahead and their willingness to spend big under Todd Boehly and co could help them land one of the top strikers on the market.

Mauricio Pochettino has trialled the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Armando Broja, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling through the middle this season. But a marquee striker in the ilk of Osimhen would give the Blues a focal point that has been missing and they look to have taken the lead over Arsenal for his signature.
