Although he featured scarcely for Arsenal when he first arrived in the Premier League, his loan stint with Luton and Crystal Palace last season appears to have enabled Lokonga to develop a skillset which would make him, at the very least, a useful squad player for the Gunners going forward.

Hatters boss Edwards has never shied away from heaping the praise on his loanee, saying last week: “He’s great. He’s been great for us, a brilliant person. So hard working, really humble, really talented, very tactically aware, in the right place at the right time to control a game, takes the ball under pressure. He’s giving us a final pass as well now. He’s looking like, for me, a really complete midfield player.”
