could offload a collection of big earners to afford ‘s monstrous £62million-a-year salary, with the forward reportedly ‘willing to join‘ the Gunners. Although the move would force to rip up the club’s existing wage structure, making the necessary sacrifices is far from impossible, and Express Sport takes you through seven players who could make way for the World Cup winner…

Thomas Partey

In a bid to save £62m worth of wages annually, offloading Partey would be a no-brainer for Arteta. The midfielder’s season has been blighted by injuries, making only four Premier League appearances, and he banks £10.4m a year.

Aaron Ramsdale

There is no need for Arsenal to be splashing out on wages for their back-up goalkeeper now that David Raya is the established No 1. Ramsdale is playing a bit-part role at the Emirates Stadium but still taking home a whopping £6.2m per season.

The Italian is likely to be moved off the wage bill this summer when his £5.7m-a-year contract expires. Although Arsenal retain an option to extend Jorginho’s stay by an extra 12 months, they have so far shown no intention of triggering it.

Kieran Tierney

Tierney is on loan at Real Sociedad and, by his own admission, loving every minute of it. Arteta is already flush with options at left-back and all parties would surely be pleased if Tierney was earning £5.7m elsewhere by the start of next season.

Gabriel Jesus

The Gunners agreed an eye-watering £13.8m-a-year deal with Jesus to lure him away from Manchester City in 2022. Arteta will therefore have hoped for a better return than the four Premier League goals he has managed this campaign.

Arsenal already have cover up top in Eddie Nketiah, and Mbappe would represent a world-class replacement for Jesus if the north Londoners offload the seven stars in question, whose wages total a whopping £61.6m per season.
