‘No brains’ – Coventry City fans blast back after promotion plan slammed

Coventry City fans have made their feelings perfectly clear about Steve McClaren’s thoughts on the impending curtailment of the League One season.

McClaren has questioned the plan from the English Football League (EFL) that would ensure Mark Robins’ side are promoted with the season currently on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.

City are top of the League by five points with 10 games to go in League One with the season suspended for about 10 weeks because of Covid-19.

The League is set to hold a vote between clubs about how to resume the campaign, with completing the remaining programme of matches or finalising the standings on a points-per-game basis the two options available.

If PPG is voted for then City would go up as champions but the rest of the division would change dramatically with Peterborough United dropping out of the play-offs and replaced by Wycombe Wanderers who are currently in eighth place.

Meanwhile, Tranmere Rovers would be relegated despite them being just three points from safety with a game-in-hand over their rivals down at the bottom.

That’s why McClaren has called into question the decision to include the PPG option in the vote.

It looks unlikely the season will continue because of the costs of staging matches to clubs in the third tier.

McClaren told Sky Sports: “You’ve got to be fair.

“There’s a lot of integrity in this.

“Points per game? No, you finish the season.

“It can be done. Whatever it costs the clubs, people have to help.”

Unsurprisingly, City fans were quick to blast the former England boss.

“You’re top of the league for a reason not just by one point,” one said.

“The wally with the brolly,” another added, making reference to McClaren’s failed England stint.

A third said: “Why doesn’t he just keep his nose out?”

“Ah here he is…. the wally with the brolly,” said another.

“A useless comment from a useless manager,” added another.

“What would be unfair is voiding a season that’s 80% through and rewarding the poor sides,” said one City fan.

“Maybe this statement explains why he’s such a failure as a manager,” another said. “No brains.”

“What does he know?” one asked. “Mind your own business.”
