Silvestre started his playing career at Rennes before moving to Inter Milan, where he spent one season before Manchester United came calling.
The 43-year-old, who was comfortable at left-back and centre-half, went on to win four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup in his time at Old Trafford.
After nine seasons with United, Silvestre joined Arsenal in 2008, going on to make 43 appearances in all competitions during his two seasons at the club.
Silvestre, who finished his career with spells at Werder Bremen, Portland Timbers and Indian side Chennaiyin, said: “Of course I still want Arsenal to do well. You have an attachment with every team you play for and it’s the same for me with Arsenal.
“I gave everything for them. Sweat, blood, a broken nose.
“Whenever you sign for a club you have to embrace it, buy into the philosophy, appreciate the history and build a relationship with the fans.”
Before going on to add: “When two of my old teams are playing against each other, I’m just cheering for the winner.”
