Wenger outlined the impact Ozil would have on Turkish football, saying: “He certainly will be the biggest transfer of the January window because the world of football is a bit quiet.
“It’s fantastic news for Fenerbahçe who are in a strong position in the league and I think he can be the piece of the puzzle to make them even more of a threat to win the Turkish league.”
Although he grew up in Germany, Ozil is of Turkish descent and supported Fenerbahce as a boy.
And Wenger believes the midfielder will be a huge boost in the club’s bid to win the Turkish league.
“I’m sure that he’s frustrated at not having played. His hunger must be absolutely [enormous] to play football again,” said Wenger.
“Mesut is a guy who needs a warm environment and I believe he will find that more than anywhere else in Turkey.
“Overall, he can provide the balls that the strikers need to win football games. If they do that well, they have a good chance of winning the league. I will follow that with great attention.”
