Lucas Moura has claimed that Tottenham have every chance of fighting for trophies this season after helping his side to a comfortable 5-0 victory over eighth-tier Marine in the FA Cup third round. The Brazil international scored an impressive free-kick during the first half of the match, which saw Spurs field a strong team against the minnows from Merseyside.
Jose Mourinho included the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli and Ben Davies in his starting lineup to face Marine, and it paid off as Spurs coasted to a one-sided win.
Carlos Vinicius bagged a 13-minute hat-trick during the first half alongside the strike from Lucas, before teenager Alfie Devine scored his first professional goal for the club on the hour mark.
After the final whistle, Lucas outlined his side’s ambitions to fight for every trophy available between now and the end of the season.
Spurs lost two league matches last month but recovered well to draw at Wolves before beating Leeds United in their last outing.
“Our objective this season is to win trophies,” said Lucas. “We have a very good squad. We are able to fight for every trophy. That’s what we want. We are trying to put it in our minds [to win silverware].”
Lucas performed well against Marine before he was pulled off for a well-earned rest with 25 minutes remaining.
The 28-year-old revealed that he was pleased with his side’s performance, with Spurs having gone into the match expecting nothing less than a resounding victory.
“Very happy,” he said. “Today was a different day. New for us to play against them. But we came here with big respect and mentality to win.
“To go to the next round and I think we did well. Very happy to help the team win.”
His comments were echoed by Mourinho, who praised the professionalism of his players in getting the job done despite the lowly status of their non-league opponents.
“I am happy,” said the Portuguese boss. “I think the boys were professionals and didn’t stop until the game was over in terms of result.
“The attitude was positive and that means a lot for me and also for the competition and to Marine’s guys, because they felt we played seriously.”
