Man Utd transfer news: Amad Diallo delay, Martial replacement, Van de Beek exit backed | Football | Sport

Manchester United could have a busy January transfer window as they look to build on their solid start to the season which sees them engaged in a surprise title battle with Liverpool. Express Sport rounds up all the latest news and gossip from Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo delay

United have confirmed the transfer of Atalanta ace Amad Diallo with the wonderkid signing a four-and-a-half year deal.

However, the Ivorian will not yet be able to link up with his new team-mates because his visa has not come through.

All of the correct paperwork has been filed and United are waiting for confirmation before flying the attacker to the UK.

A club statement read: “Manchester United is pleased to confirm Amad Diallo’s arrival from Atalanta has been finalised. The Ivorian winger has signed a contract to the end of June 2025, with the option of an extra year.

“When an agreement between the clubs was first announced on 5 October 2020 – deadline day at the end of the summer transfer window – it was subject to a medical, work-permit and personal terms.

“These steps in the process have been completed, and an application has been made for a visa.

“Once this has been issued, Diallo will be cleared to travel to Manchester and to train with and play for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.”

Diallo has only featured once for Atalanta this term after agreeing to join United on deadline day.

The Serie A side attempted to keep hold of the 18-year-old until the end of the season but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side flexed their muscles and dashed their hopes.

Anthony Martial replacement

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still eager to bring Erling Haaland to Manchester United and that could likely bring the end of Anthony Martial’s permanent fixture in the starting XI.

United missed out on signing Haaland last January when the youngster opted to join Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg.

Martial ended up finding his scoring boots shortly after and ended the campaign with 23 goals to his name.

But the goals have since dried up and rumours of a return for Haaland have resurfaced.

Van de Beek exit backed

Holland icon Ronald de Boer thinks Donny van de Beek must leave Old Trafford just six months after completing a move from Ajax.

The midfielder has struggled for minutes and that could affect his chances of being called up to the Dutch international team, which is managed by Ronald’s brother Frank de Boer.

“The European Championship is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there,” De Boer told Dutch outlet AD.

“Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him.

“If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.”
