The two deals proved that Liverpool chiefs can pull off deals even when they’re not expected, especially in Jota’s case.
It would be remiss of them to publicly state their desire to sign a defender, though their need is blatantly obvious.
A reality check is needed – Liverpool are still top of the table. Though Reds legend Jamie Carragher does not think that will continue if they have a quiet window.
“I can’t see Liverpool winning the league if they don’t buy a centre-back,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
But there is still plenty of time for supporters, such as Carragher, to get what they want before the February 2 deadline.
