Thiago Silva has proved to be a brilliant signing for Chelsea so far this season with the Brazilian defender adapting to the Premier League with ease following his move from Paris Saint-Germain. His defensive awareness and experience has really caught the eye of many so far, but another thing worth noting is his finishing ability, as we saw in a Blues training session this week.
Frank Lampard’s side travel to Leicester City on Tuesday evening, as the Blues look to make it back-to-back Premier League wins.
Mason Mount scored the only goal of the game against Fulham on Saturday, which secured Chelsea’s first win of 2021 and ended their poor recent form.
Mount took his goal really well after Ben Chilwell’s cross was parried by Fulham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to the England international, who struck his volley really sweetly.
The 22-year-old’s strike wasn’t the only thing to catch the eye on Saturday, though, with Silva’s performance at the heart of the visitors’ defence proving crucial in the three points.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for the former PSG defender and his new centre-back partner Antonio Rudiger, who made a long awaited Premier League return.
“A couple of answers for him (Lampard) as well – when you’ve only had one clean sheet in seven, sometimes things have to change, whether it’s a system change, a personnel change. I think Rudiger and Thiago Silva looked like a real partnership,” Redknapp said.
It appears that his defensive capabilities are not the only thing he has to offer either, after Chelsea released a video from Monday’s training session on their official Twitter account.
The ball got played to Silva, who controlled the ball perfectly with his right foot before slotting the ball exquisitely into the top corner.
His team-mate, Jorginho, was pictured behind the goal and was clearly very excited when the ball struck the back of the net.
The Italian midfielder was jogging on the spot with a big smile on his face after the expertly taken finish.
The Blues were training at Cobham ahead of their huge Premier League clash with Leicester on Tuesday evening.
Three points for the side could see them move to within two points of the top four, but they will have their work cut out against the third-placed Foxes.

Silva, as it stands, is likely to be involved for the visitors at the King Power Stadium, but he could face a punishment after breaching Covid protocols in the win at Fulham.
After the final whistle, the Brazilian centre-back threw his Chelsea shirt to a construction worker who was working on the new stand at Craven Cottage.
Silva could now face action from the Premier League, who released stricter Covid-19 rules earlier in the week.
The players have now been urged to obey social distancing rules whenever possible, use hand sanitizer before and after matches, as well as wear face coverings in stadiums.
The rules also ask players to avoid spitting, handshakes, high fives and swapping post-match shirts to try and prevent the spread of the potentially fatal virus.
