Manchester City could reportedly reignite their interest in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong if the Spanish giants are forced to sell this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola wanted to sign the Dutch international from Ajax three years ago, but the player opted to make the switch to the Camp Nou instead. Now, due to Barcelona’s financial constraints, they could be forced to sell their star midfielder – and City would be at the front of the queue.

Club captain Fernandinho sprung a surprise last month when he announced his intention to leave City and move back to Brazil in the summer, upon the expiry of his current contract. With the future of some other midfielders still up in the air, the report says the club believe they need to add bodies in that department ahead of the new season.

Guardiola is likely to continue operating with a three-man midfield, so a player capable of playing both a holding and box-to-box role is desirable for the Catalan.

Elsewhere, Bernardo Silva is still being linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. The Portuguese international has enjoyed another stellar season in England, but rumours of his unhappiness are still rife and his future at the club is far from secure.

Ferran Martinez from Mundo Deportivo has reported Barcelona are still following the 27-year-old’s situation. The Spanish giants tried to sign Silva last summer – with the player keen on the idea of moving to La Liga – but the economics of transfer were just too steep.

It is expected to be a similar story this season, but the possibility of including Frenkie De Jong into the deal could reportedly be a massive boost if the 24-year-old is happy to move on.

Also, regarding outgoings, City’s highly-rated goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has been linked with a move to another Premier League club. The 20-year-old has had a major breakthrough season out on loan at Portsmouth, where he won the club’s Player of the Year award earlier this week.

It is clear the youngster is ready to challenge at the highest level and Alex Crook from TalkSport says Southampton are interested in bringing the ‘keeper to St Marys.

Bazunu believes he has the ability to become a Premier League number one, but displacing Ederson at City is seen as near-impossible, so a move away would benefit all parties.

Finally, according to Calcio Mercato, AC Milan are interested in signing Raheem Sterling. The England international has also been linked with a switch to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal recently, with his contract set to expire next summer and no progress made in regards to an extension.
