Good morning. Here are your Manchester City headlines for Tuesday, June 30.
City to sign teen Juventus star
Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Juventus’ teenage striker Pablo Moreno, with Felix Correia heading in the opposite direction.
The Spanish under-18 international joined the Serie A giants in July 2018, after coming through the youth ranks at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
Moreno made a name for himself as a potent underage goal scorer in Catalonia, netting more than 200 goals at three youth levels, and he has continued his strong form in Turin.
However, he is yet to make a first team appearance for Maurizio Sarri’s side, opening the door for City to complete a £9m move.
The deal will see Correia move to Italy, after just one season at City, following his 2019 move from Sporting Lisbon. The 19-year old has impressed on loan in Dutch side AZ Alkmaar’s reserve team this season and he is expected to complete his part of the move later this week.
Grealish the new Sane?
City boss Pep Guardiola will move for Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish if Leroy Sane leaves the club this summer.
The Spaniard has confirmed Sane will not be extending his contract beyond the end of next season, with reports of a possible switch to Bayern Munich continuing to grow.
However, Bayern’s rumoured offer of £35m falls well below City’s valuation of the German international.
The Telegraph claims Guardiola is not interested in a player exchange deal with his former club and will push for Grealish instead.
The 24-year old, also a target for Manchester United this summer, has been vital for Dean Smith’s side following their Premier League return this season, but he is likely to leave if they are relegated in the coming weeks.
The rise and rise of Eric Garcia
Eric Garcia ’s starring role in City’s 2018 pre-season tour of the United States formed the basis for his rise into the first team.
The Spanish defender featured in all three of City’s games, against Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, as part of a youthful squad in the US.
Pep Guardiola namechecked the Catalan native, alongside Phil Foden, after the tournament in an indication of his intention to promote him in the 2018/19 campaign.
“Eric played three games, against Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Arjen Robben and Kingsley Coman,” Guardiola stated afterwards.
“But I am satisfied with his intentions. That is how I judge, and his intentions are so good.”
The 19-year old made his first team debut against Watford in October 2019, with 12 appearances spread across all competitions in 2019/20.
A serious head injury suffered in City’s return to action in the 3-0 win at home to Arsenal has sidelined him for the upcoming games, but Guardiola is confident he will feature again before the end of the season.
