Tottenham could see their chances of signing Real Madrid star Arda Guler improve this summer if Kylian Mbappe opts to head to the Bernabeu. The France international has told Paris Saint-Germain that he intends to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Mbappe has been linked with numerous moves over the past few years, though the finances involved in striking a deal with PSG for his services have been a sticking point in negotiations for the majority of suitors.

Real Madrid have remained informed of the situation throughout though, having tabled record-breaking bids for the ex-Monaco star in 2021 and 2022. The higher powers in the Spanish capital are desperate to make Mbappe their next Galactico, and their patience is set to be rewarded.

It emerged over the weekend that the 25-year-old had informed PSG that he will not be signing a contract extension at the Parc des Princes over the next few months as he intends on becoming a free agent in July when his current deal expires. Madrid, of course, remains an increasingly likely destination for Mbappe, with negotiations already ongoing.

If the deal goes ahead then there will be plenty of knock-on effects, with players expected to leave Madrid in order to facilitate Mbappe’s arrival. Spurs could be among the beneficiaries given that they are desperate to acquire the services of Los Blancos’ summer signing Guler.

According to Sport, Ange Postecoglou’s side have already registered an interest in signing the 18-year-old after witnessing him struggle for minutes at Madrid so far this season. The Spanish giants have responded to enquiries by inviting loan offers from interested clubs, though it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to entertain permanent bids following the arrival of Mbappe.

Guler joined the La Liga outfit during the summer transfer window from Fenerbahce in a deal worth £17million, but he has made just four appearances in all competitions since touching down in Spain.

With other top talents, such as Jude Bellingham, trusted by Carlo Ancelotti, the Turkish international may grow restless of sitting on the sidelines and waiting for minimal opportunities, and the prospect of playing Premier League football for an attacking side like Spurs could be persuasive.

Madrid worked hard to acquire the services of Guler previously but the arrival of Mbappe is likely to change the landscape of their squad and their desire to sign the PSG star will certainly have financial consequences which require player sales to resolve.
