Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United has reportedly been approved by the Premier League and is now on the verge of being completed. The Brit was awaiting word from the league and now could be all sealed within a few days.

The Telegraph claim that Ratcliffe has received approval from the Premier League that he has passed their directors and owners’ test. All that is left now is for the Football Association to sign off a final agreement after Ratcliffe extended his purchase offer until the end of this week.

United’s filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday night confirmed that the league has privately approved the deal. A statement from the division confirming the decision is only expected once the deal is official, likely next week.
