Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s reported transfer plans for Manchester United suggest that a potential return for Mason Greenwood remains firmly out of the question. Greenwood is spending the season on loan at Getafe and is widely expected to leave the Red Devils permanently in the summer.

The former England striker has emerged as one of Getafe’s best players, having chipped in with 10 goal contributions from 21 league games so far this season. However, it seems that any talk of a return to Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad is unlikely to come to fruition.

United opted to ship Greenwood out after determining that it would be ‘most appropriate’ for him to resume his career away from Old Trafford. Ratcliffe is yet to comment on whether United’s stance on the matter has changed, but his reported transfer plans suggest that Greenwood is still expected to leave on a permanent basis.

The INEOS chief is said to be plotting a move for Bayern Munich ace Mathys Tel in perhaps the biggest indicator that Greenwood’s services will not be required next season. United have already reached out to discuss a potential swoop, according to Sky Germany, with Tel said to be willing to consider the move despite having a preference to stay at Bayern.

The 18-year-old has a similar profile to Greenwood as a right-footed player who is dangerous when cutting in from the left flank. His young age and high ceiling for growth would make him an ideal long-term successor for the United outcast, but only time will tell if a deal can be done when the bidding opens in the summer.

Tel was recently described as a ‘weapon’ by Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel, who said: “Mathys has a high impact off the bench. He is a weapon for us at the moment, we know what he can give us. He will also start games this season.

“He is currently showing that he can assist and score goals. We’re taking it step by step with him. He’s on the right track. We’re happy that he’s here and he’s happy about it too.”

The teenage forward has also received glowing praise from arguably the world’s most complete forward in Harry Kane, with the England striker adding: “He’s started the season really well. I like the way he trains. He’s always pushing himself and is fully committed. Every time he came in he made a difference and is very confident.”
