Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed a heartwarming message from Brentford’s Ivan Toney after their match on Saturday. Despite Brentford’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium, Toney, who scored the only goal for the hosts, had kind words for Klopp at the end of the game. And the German noted that the centre-forward is a boyhood Reds fan as he shared what Toney said to him.

Klopp is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and Toney wished him well for his future. Klopp appreciated the sentiment, saying: “It was like I was smiling at him, as he’s obviously quite a handful and really tricky to play against – although I used a different word. Am I right that he’s a Liverpool supporter and he’s not shy of saying that?”

He added: “I can admit it as well. We spoke a little bit about that and he wished me good luck for my time after. A lot of people have said it, a lot of players. It’s not necessary, but it’s nice when you hear it.”

Klopp concluded by reassuring fans: “Nobody has to worry – I will find something, a place to watch the Premier League. It was a nice conversation.”

Klopp has a big chance to add to his legend at Liverpool in just a week. They’re playing Chelsea at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, hoping to win it again as they did in 2022 against the same opponents.

But Klopp’s job might be harder because Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota all sustained injuries at Brentford while Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold were already out with problems.

Klopp told TNT Sports: “It is mixed emotions, we lost players which we don’t know how serious it is. It doesn’t look great for either of them [Jones and Jota].

“I think there was a knock on Curtis [Jones]. It was a challenge with Diogo [Jota] as well and Darwin [Nunez] we are not sure if he has something or not, he felt something. We will see.”
