Kylian Mbappe continued to prove that he would elevate either Arsenal or Liverpool above Manchester City by producing another match-winning performance for Paris Saint-Germain. The Frenchman scored the opening goal in a 2-0 triumph over Real Sociedad that puts PSG on the brink of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with an exit from the Parisians this coming summer. However, it is only Real Madrid who harbour a genuinely strong interest.

Los Blancos hold a long-term admiration for the 25-year-old and have long been viewed as his next destination. Madrid tried to lure him away from the French capital in 2022, prior to Mbappe penning a two-year contract with PSG.

However, it is claimed that Mbappe would be interested in a move to the Premier League. According to the Independent, Arsenal and Liverpool are of interest to the France captain, whose contract now ends in the summer.

The report continues that Mbappe’s representatives even reached out to Liverpool last year to determine whether a deal was possible. Arsenal and Liverpool, though, both have reservations about how much signing Mbappe would cost.

PSG reportedly pay the forward a staggering £1.2m per-week after tax. Even a huge wage cut would see either Premier League club completely shatter their wage structure.

But Arsenal and Liverpool must now ask themselves whether such a risky move would be worth the cost. Mbappe would be the final missing piece in both of their sides, allowing them to finally topple City across a 38-game season.

An incredible record of 15 goal contributions across his last eight games shows Mbappe comes to the fore when his team needs him. As PSG close in on another Ligue 1 title – leading the French top-flight by 11 points – Mbappe has ensured that there will be no slip-up.

It is in the Champions League where Mbappe will be required most. PSG’s record in the competition has been underwhelming, given the vast sums of money spent by the club. Dragging them to a vastly improved second-half performance and, ultimately, victory over Sociedad was all his own doing.

For Arsenal, Mbappe would provide the goals Mikel Arteta’s side have lacked in the last two years. For Liverpool, he would be the figurehead of a new era at Anfield and would be the ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah’s talismanic presence, should the Egyptian depart in the summer.

Both clubs should reconsider their stances on signing Mbappe. He would be the difference in properly challenging Man City for the Premier League title.
