Arsenal’s hunt for a seasoned striker was back-burnered in January, as an interest in Brentford man Ivan Toney went unpursued. However, in both of their recent routings of Burnley and West Ham, not one of the 11 goals was scored by an out-and-out number nine.

Bukayo Saka holds the title of top-scorer in all competitions with 15, whilst also leading the way in regard to assists, with 13. Leandro Trossard’s new role has worked wonders, and he’s notched in their last three games, but the need for that natural-born finisher still remains.

With their mid-season slump posing the question and the £45 million Gabriel Jesus disappointing since making the switch from Manchester City, his fellow Brazilian could pique Arsenal’s interest as they travel to Portugal in the Champions League.

Evanilson joined Porto from Brazilian side Tombense in 2020 for just £7.5m and didn’t get off to the fastest of starts, scoring 10 goals in his first full season in Portugal.

A respectable 21 goals in 26 games the following season caught the eye of United, with the Brazilian commenting on the interest in 2022, saying: “I like English football. I really like English football. I’m at a good level in my career, but I’m not at a top level.

“I have a lot to evolve. But that’s what I work for. If any big team comes… I will try to do my best at FC Porto. I will work hard to be prepared to the fullest.”

The striker has clearly undergone some form of evolution since, having notched an inspired 19 goals in 27 games this campaign, including a stellar Champions League tally of four. He sits just one goal behind Erling Haaland and United’s Rasmus Hojlund.

With a European hat trick to his name, the £65m rated attacker is undoubtedly Porto’s danger man. Should he impress during the Arsenal tie, a big summer move to England isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
