Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Seny Dieng. The 26-year-old has impressed between the sticks for the Championship outfit this season, helping to keep four clean sheets despite his side’s unfavourable position near the bottom of the table.
The Gunners are understood to be on the hunt for a new second-choice stopper, with summer signing Runar Alex Runarsson having failed to live up to expectations when called upon.
Dieng’s showings have impressed the club’s scouts to the extent that he is being considered as their top January target, according to a report from The Sun.
It is also claimed that Leeds United are keen on the Zurich-born goalkeeper with Marcelo Bielsa eager to rectify his side’s defensive woes.
The Whites have shipped 33 goals in 17 Premier League outings this season, which is the second worst defensive record in the league with strugglers West Bromwich Albion the only team to have conceded more.
Crystal Palace are another club tracking Dieng’s progress, and could be looking to move for his signature this month in order to provide Vicente Guaita with increased competition.
All three clubs signed new goalkeepers during the summer, with Arsenal bringing in Runarsson, Leeds sealing Illan Meslier on a three-year deal from Lorient and Palace landing Stoke City stopper Jack Butland for a modest fee of £1million.
Dieng has established himself as the clear number one at QPR this season.
He initially joined the west London club from German side Duisburg in 2016 on a free transfer, before a string of loan spells at the likes of Whitehawk, Stevenage and Doncaster Rovers helped to cut his teeth in the English game.
This season, the 26-year-old has featured in all but two of his side’s league matches, conceding 27 goals in the process.
QPR will surely be looking to keep hold of their man with a tense relegation battle looming, but could be tempted to sell if the right offer comes in from a Premier League club.
In recent weeks Arsenal have been linked with another Championship star in Norwich City‘s Emiliano Buendia.
The winger was widely tipped to leave Carrow Road at the end of last season after the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League, but remained and has starred for Daniel Farke’s side once again this time around.
However, reports have claimed that Buendia is open to a January exit with Arsenal having already held preliminary talks with Norwich regarding his availability.
