Barcelona goalkeeper Neto has handed in a transfer request and demanded a move away form the Nou Camp, putting Arsenal on red alert. Neto is second-choice to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at Barcelona and is struggling for minutes.
Neto has expressed a desire to leave Barcelona after 18 months at the Nou Camp.
The goalkeeper joined from Valencia in the summer of 2019, but has only played eight league games.
Instead, Ter Stegen, 28, has held down the starting spot, leaving little room for Neto.
Now, he has grown tired of being a backup goalkeeper and has demanded a move away.
He has a release clause of £177million, but there is no chance of any team coming close to that fee.
Instead, Neto is attempting to convince the club to lower their asking price and let him go, with Barca said to be resigned to losing him.
Arsenal are one of the teams interested in signing him, with Mikel Arteta reportedly a fan of the Brazilian.
Arteta wanted to sign a new goalkeeper last summer but failed to bring in Brentford’s David Raya.
He said: “The discussions we had in the summer with Edu and the Club were a little bit different to what actually happened because of the transfer window and the situation that developed with Emi.
“We didn’t have much time to do what we really wanted to do and we decided to assess the situation now in this window.
“We will make a decision about how we want to move forward in those three positions in the goalkeeping area.”
Neto is just one of a number of goalkeepers Arsenal are apparently tracking, but his transfer request could make a deal this month more likely.
